Hello! My name is Kayla and I am a therapist at Vendela Counseling. Before becoming a therapist, I had an extensive career in education. During my time as a teacher, I witnessed the dire need for more mental health awareness, interventions, and services for the students and faculty, alike. My enjoyment of educating others and my passion for learning about mental health fueled my desire to pursue counseling. While I especially enjoy working with adolescents and young adults navigating self-understanding and growing with life's challenges, I am happy to work with individuals at all stages of life.
My approach to counseling integrates evidence-based techniques to facilitate growth toward mental and emotional well-being, in addition to mindfulness practices to bring the mind, body and spirit into alignment. Our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are all connected. I prefer to use skills from Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients recognize and challenge unhelpful thought patterns, leading to reduced emotional distress and desired behavioral change. During our work together, we will focus on building awareness, increasing self-compassion and establishing self-trust.
I deeply value the therapeutic relationship and it is an honor for me to sit beside you and hear your story. I wish to work collaboratively with you, understanding that each individual’s journey is unique. I specialize in anxiety disorders, managing stress and burnout, managing ADHD symptoms, relational attachment concerns, and sexuality.
